Sew Your View – Wrap Blouse

Sew Your View Organza wrap blouse s8971

During the month of March, I had the great opportunity to take over Sew Your View’s Instagram page. Sew Your View is a monthly sew-along where each month a new sewing pattern is created by a group of sewers. This collective was developed by Monica of @thatssewonica, an amazing DIYer who’s super supportive and inspiring.

March’s pattern was Simplicity 8791, a sophisticated wrap blouse with various sleeve and peplum options. During the takeover, I shared my inspirations, fabric choice for my garments, and even did a video of how to alter a sleeve pattern. The ladies who were following along shared their opinions and garments as they went along the creation process.

For my fabric choice, I decided on a teal colored organza with floral details. I toyed around with making the entire blouse sheer or lining it and later decided to line it. I choose a teal colored lining as well but kept the sleeves sheer. The pattern instructions were not the easiest to follow, despite this being a fairly easy garment to create. I made adjustments to the sleeve by adding more volume to shoulder and the wrist area. I extended the belt ties 2 inches on both sides.

To style the blouse, I pulled out a pair of cream colored trousers I’ve had for years. The shoes are an old pair of SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker. The color is no longer available but there are plenty of other fun options. I really liked the way the blouse turned out despite all of the small issues I had with the pattern instructions. Check back on the group’s Instagram page to see what the other ladies of Sew Your View have created.
